The Vanilla Bet by Ella Emerson

Location Palm Beach Florida,

There are few communities in the world whose name is more associated with wealth than Palm Beach. Since 1894, when railroad magnate Henry Flagler built the Royal Poinciana Hotel for well-heeled Easterners looking for a warm place to escape the harsh northern winters, the resort has been a playground for the super-rich–and those who wish they were.

While it was Flagler’s railroad that brought the sun-seekers south, it was the luxurious lifestyle that he and others created that made them return. As a monument to his fortune, Flagler built a 55-room mansion named Whitehall that would inspire the Palm Beach tradition of building lavish temples to its residents’ bank accounts.

Palm Beach attracts the powerful as well as the merely wealthy. When John F. Kennedy was president, his family had a Palm Beach estate, and former President George Bush’s family wintered just up Route 1 in Jupiter.

In addition to Trump, those members of the Forbes Four Hundred Riches in America now keep houses in Palm Beach.

I wanted the setting to be influenced by money. Where greed and jealousy of the fabulously rich could play out into a wonderful Mystery novel. Palm Beach, Florida was just the place.

Mystery, Intrigue, and Romance all come together in THE VANILLA BET by Ella Emerson.

  1. So there’s more to Florida than the Mouse Parks then?! 😉 Seriously, Palm Beach must be one of the more sophisticated and sensuous places to set a mystery novel in and all the better for being an adults only affair. Good luck with the rest of your tour Ella 😀
