Review: Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce

Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce is book one in The Immortals quartet, following Daine as she learns about her wild magic and how to use it in defense of Tortall.

Daine’s always had a knack with animals, but it isn’t until she meets Numair that she realizes it’s actually wild magic and she can talk to animals. Journeying back to Tortall with her new friends, violently orphaned Daine realizes that she can have a place and a new home with people that accept her.

The realm is under attack by Immortals, after their release into the human world for the first time in centuries. Not quite human, but not quite animal either, these creatures don’t die except by violence and some of them are pretty angry at being magically kept away for so long.

She also finds out that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect this new home, and to stay.

If you like this one, you can read the rest of the Immortals quartet here. This series follows the Song of the Lioness quartet in the Tortall universe. You can find the author’s website here.
