Of course, the book changes the idea of mages a little, taking them away from traditional magic and giving them craft magic. Each of the four children specializes in a unique craft: sewing, gardening, smithing, and weather. Coming together as a unit, these four outcasts find a new family when they thought they were alone.
Earthquakes, bullies, and even their own tempers can’t separate these four as they start into their studies and learn to control their magics. Sandry, the stitch witch, is able to bring the four together in a way no one, not even their mage teachers, ever could have expected. Now stronger than ever before, the four are determined to survive.
